You think so?

How much actual time have you spent without power, pumped water, climate control, phone service, refrigerated food supply, or fuel in a tropical climate?

Me, nine years. Intentionally. In a location far enough from population density that sustainability was obtainable, but with the option to hike out and avail myself of any and all of those conveniences when the rain was low enough to make the fast flowing waters passable - sometimes using a rope safety line to wade out, other times dry crossings. The first two years were much harder, but by the end the excursions 'out' of the jungle were not more frequent than once per quarter, sometimes as few as twice a year.

Change those wild conditions to a location with significant population density and citizens habituated to any and all of those conveniences; even in a small measure, and things are confoundingly harder with significant risk to life through the interruption in those services without the surrounding natural habitat and developed skills to survive.

So, the 'there are workout gyms everywhere' is a tone expected from a frat brat, crypto bro with limited applied experience and a vanishingly small capacity for empathy. Is that the note you were trying to hit?

You also get reported for catching too many fish, or growing too many plants. Because if you did that, you could sell them, or save up enough to leave.

what a wild comment, could be right up there with "slaves had it easy", you feel that being forced to live in third-world conditions and then being denied fuel as an act of war is somehow a paradise?

It's more than torture, it's a deceptive disregard for human rights and agency. "Deceptive" in the sense of offering plausible deniability for death tolls caused by indirect actions such as blockades (an act of war), food shortages, or power outages.

Because the US is a bully demanding servitude and compliance, that’s all it is. Decouple as much as you can, as quickly as you can, as the rest of the world is demonstrating. To not be bullied, you must step out of the reach of the bully.

I put it to you that at most the US is helping to torture the Cuban people, a job that the Cuban government has been taking the reigns on for decades. It's not as though this is a crisis that emerged out of nowhere, or that Trump spent 50+ years grinding their economy and social structures to dust with mismanagement, corruption, and brutality.

I don't think it's worth it personally, but the Cuban diaspora in the US overwhelmingly does. I'd take it up with them, but maybe don't accuse them of torture right out of the gate.
