I think that part of the answer to this question is, it depends on what work you love to do. A lot of this question when it comes to automation assumes everyone would love to move up the stack. “Don’t paint animation cels, make whole movies!!!” But lots of us like to do the busy work. My aspiration is to retire so I can work on a farm, waaaay down the stack.

When people talk about AI automating aspects of software development, I often get dismayed because they're frequently talking about automating away work that I enjoy doing and increasing work that I don't enjoy doing (mostly, reviewing code I didn't write).
